Domaine Labet

Labet

Domaine Labet, located in Rotalier, Sud-Revermont, revolutionized Jura winemaking. In the late 1970s, Alain Labet became the first in the region to bottle wines from individual terroirs. By the 1990s, he introduced "vins ouillés" (topped-up wines), diverging from the oxidative aging tradition under flor. This shift allowed Chardonnay to express subtle terroir nuances, gaining international recognition despite initial local resistance.

Julien Labet, Alain's son, took over in 1997, introducing more precision, second-hand Burgundy barrels, lower sulfur, and organic practices. With siblings Charline and Romain, the family now runs the certified organic estate. Their whites age for 18-36 months in barrels and foudres, while reds are partially destemmed and aged for shorter periods. Minimal SO2 and biodynamic methods define their work, with transparency central to every bottle.

Domaine Labet is known for its terroir-driven wines and attracts both young winemakers and wine lovers from around the world.
